Before someone will follow the diabetic diet faithfully, that person must understand first what diabetes is and how diet can help. It is important to remember that there are two general types of diabetes: one that is inborn and one that develops as one grows older. The first type of diabetes needs a trio of diet, medications and exercise to manage. The other diabetes type is the so called diet controlled diabetes because diet alone and a few lifestyle modifications can keep this condition under control. Diet helps a lot because it can burn the extra glucose and makes the insulin in a person work better.

Discipline is the key

The key thing to remember about diet controlled diabetes is that you need commitment to the diet and lifestyle changes if you want a healthy life. Following a diabetic plan of treatment with diet control can be especially difficult but achievable nonetheless. Diabetes And The Symptoms You Should Be Able To Recognize

Written on March 2nd, 2011 by Paul Partridgeno shouts

Some of the symptoms of diabetes are so mild that people often don’t even know that they are suffering from this condition. It is very important that you recognize the signs of diabetes because if you leave this condition untreated, then you could end up with complications; below are a number of the symptoms.

    - A more frequent need to urinate is one of the most common signs of diabetes. This is because if your body has no or ineffective insulin, your kidneys cannot filter the glucose into the blood. The bladder ends up with more water because the kidneys have to compensate for the inability to filter the glucose by taking water from the blood in order to dilute the glucose.

    - Another sign of diabetes which is knock on effect of frequent urination is constant thirst. The more liquid you lose by frequently urinating, the more liquid you are going to need to consume to replace it.

    - There is a reduction in energy in the body cells because of the lack of insulin that is produced. Another symptom is increased hunger because the body resorts to finding energy from food to replace the lost energy that it would normally get from the insulin.

    - Insufficient energy also leads to diabetics experiencing increased fatigue and consequent irritability.

    - Weight gain is another symptom because of the increased hunger. If you are suffering from Type 1 diabetes you could be just as likely to lose weight rather than put it on. Type 1 diabetics do not make any insulin at all and the body then starts to take energy from the fat and muscle stores in the body.

    - Diabetics also suffer from frequent gum diseases and infections as their gums get tender, red and swollen.

So if you notice any or a few of these symptoms, it is better to consult your physician and get a blood test done. There is much more chance of you avoiding complications from diabetes if you get treated sooner rather than later.

Orthopedic Socks: The Foot Pain Reliever

Written on February 28th, 2011 by Noble Chadwickno shouts

There are shoes present today that help people with foot issues, and there are also socks that do the same. Plantar fasciitis is the condition you call when one feels pain on their plantar fascia, this is the strip of connective tissues that support the arch of the foot. This pain is usually felt in the morning when you wake up, particularly on your first few steps as you get up from bed. This is something to worry about because if left untreated, you might one day be unable to walk because the pain will worsen.

People who are active in outdoor sports, specifically athletes, are the most common individuals to get plantar fasciitis. It is good to practice to become better in your sport but is a bad habit to overuse your muscle tissues. There should breaks in between strenuous activities, if not then you will get plantar fasciitis. Having very tight shoes is another way of acquiring this foot condition, you should have enough space for your feet to breath and properly move in your shoes so that you can maneuver with ease.

A more detailed explanation of how you get plantar fasciitis is as follows. The tissue on your heel and on the part just before your toes contracts when you rest your foot, however, if you already have plantar fasciitis and you stretch this particular tissue, it will cause pain. This is the pain you experience in the morning. Orthopedic socks are the answer to his pain. When worn, you will feel less or no pain once you wake up.

What orthopedic socks do is keep the calf and arch of the foot in a neutral to stretched position. This way, it will prevent the plantar fascia to contract during sleep or rest. This will help you avoid the experience of the annoying pain that you feel in the morning on your first few steps from getting up from bed. Our orthopedic socks are designed to be very comfortable, and have smooth fit without pressure. And are mostly made of cotton to avoid irritating ridges.

To clarify things, orthopedic socks do not cure plantar fasciitis, they are footwear that help in relieving pain in the morning. Professionals who do medical care and treatment on the human foot, also known as podiatrists, believe that wearing orthopedic socks help in healing those torn muscles quicker because of what it does to the foot. It will guide the tissue so that it won’t get more damaged and, at the same time, heal faster. Socks are more affordable so they have an edge over shoes. Another thing to clear things up is that you do not wear orthopedic socks all the time, it isn’t practical, only wear them when you’re at home de-stressing.

Finding the best information about diabetic socks can be overwhelming at times. One of the best places we found online to get the straight facts is orthopedic socks.

Diabetic Shoes: Perfect Partner for people with Diabetes

Written on February 27th, 2011 by Rolland Arthurno shouts

Diabetes is a group of related diseases in which the body cannot adjust to the amount of sugar, specifically, glucose in the blood. Glucose gives energy to perform daily activities and chores. A healthy individual’s glucose level is regulated by several hormones including insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas, a small organ in between the stomach and the liver. Insulin helps the glucose move from the blood into the liver, muscles and fat cells for fuel. People with diabetes either do not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin properly. These are the 2 types of diabetes; this makes the glucose stay in the blood which results to insufficient supply of glucose for organs that needs it or damages other organs that are exposed to high level of glucose

Diabetes most often leads to diabetic feet, it is an abnormal condition that causes discomfort in walking and is painful. This also leads to arterial neuropathy, common cause of infection and inflammation on the feet. Worst cases is when the body cannot heal wounds fast or do not heal at all. Doctors and professionals strongly suggest wearing shoes that specializes in protecting the feet.

                  An Explanation Of Diabetes

Written on February 19th, 2011 by Tony Savvidesone shout

Diabetes mellitus is a common disease that is prevalent throughout the world. There are various causes that lead to diabetes like obesity, heredity, insufficient exercise and stress. There are a number of metabolic disorders of the body and diabetes is one of them.

A diabetic cannot produce enough insulin or use the insulin that they do produce effectively enough to convert starch, sugar and other food to energy. It is common for diabetics to have high blood sugar levels. Humans however are meant to have a low blood sugar level; in order for a diabetic to achieve this low level, they will have to either take medication or to take insulin injections.

The ideal blood sugar level in humans is between 70 mg/dl-110mg/dl on an empty stomach. Sometimes, the level may go below 70mg/dl; in such conditions, the condition is called hypoglycemia. Diabetes is often referred to as hyperglycemia, where the blood sugar level crosses 110 mg/dl.

                  Diabetes: The Different Types

Diabetes exists in three forms: Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. The body does not break down glucose in type one and two diabetes. Instead, their body will produce energy from proteins and fats. This can cause and excessive weight loss and it can also lead to a condition known as polyphegia.

When a pregnant woman develops diabetes it is called gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes can be dangerous for both mother and child although it is often a temporary condition. Even though the condition might go away after the birth, it is still important for the mother to check her blood sugar levels regularly and to eat a healthy diet.

                  Problems Which Could Occur

Diabetes is not a dangerous condition if it is controlled properly; if it is not controlled then death could occur. If blood sugar levels are too high then problems such as neuropathy, heart failure or kidney problems could occur. Diabetes sufferers also have a much higher chance of developing heart disease and suffering from strokes.

However people with diabetes can live normal long lives if they have the right medication, the right diet and the right knowledge.
