The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is an organization close to Talent Plus’ heart, as we too, have employees who live with this disease. These individuals are part of our family, so we have naturally become part of the race to find the cure. Jim Meehan, a senior leadership consultant for Talent Plus, has been living with diabetes for nearly 15 years. Jim is a poet by nature and recently published a compilation of verse dedicated to people living with diabetes and their caregivers, called “Sugar-Free Sweet Talk.” This book is reflective of Mr. Meehan’s journey with living with diabetes. All proceeds from the book are used to find a cure for diabetes.

Diabetes Australia NSW supports any research which may lead to a cure for type 1 diabetes On Sunday, 9 May 2010, the Sunday Night program on Channel 7 spoke about a the transplant of pancreas cells from Auckland Island pigs free of viruses, to people with type 1 diabetes. Dr Neville Howard, the President, Diabetes Australia-NSW said the organisation welcomes any positive news regarding a cure for type 1 diabetes and although research procedures have not been tested long enough to judge the outcome, its still very positive research. While initial tests proved positive, one of the original members of the trial, Peter Thompson, found his bodys defence system overpowered the transplant and he is now back on daily insulin. The trials are only available to New Zealand residents as the process was banned in Australia until last December.
